Building hands-on cloud infrastructure on AWS while growing across IT support, security, networking, and AI — backed by real certifications and real deployments.

My Journey

I am a bilingual cloud and IT professional based in Calgary, Canada, transitioning from 14 years as a secondary school chemistry teacher into cloud computing. I hold two AWS certifications — AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (SAA-C03 — August 2026) and AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02 — April 2026) — alongside the Google IT Support Professional Certificate, the Google AI Essentials Certificate, the AWS AI & ML Scholars credential (Udacity), and graduated from NPower Canada's Junior IT Analyst program in March 2026. Beyond certifications, I have independently deployed five live AWS cloud projects from scratch — solving real business problems across serverless architecture, AI integration, event-driven automation, and FinOps cost optimization. I believe the best way to learn is to build — and this portfolio is a living record of that journey.

What I'm Focused On

AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (SAA-C03 — August 2026) and AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02 — April 2026) — deepening Python and boto3 skills, building cloud projects that solve real business problems, and actively applying for cloud roles in Calgary and remotely across Canada.

Where I'm Headed

A cloud or IT role where I can apply my growing AWS expertise across serverless architecture, automation, and FinOps — and grow toward solutions architecture while contributing to teams that build real infrastructure at scale.

Built on AWS

Real infrastructure deployed on AWS — not tutorials, not screenshots.

Project 1 — Cloud Portfolio Website

LIVE

Designed and deployed this portfolio website entirely on AWS. Stored in Amazon S3 with private origin access control, served globally through CloudFront with WAF protection, secured with a free TLS certificate via ACM, and accessible via a custom domain managed in Route 53. IAM policies enforce least privilege across all services.

Architecture

Route 53 → CloudFront (SSL/TLS + WAF + OAC) → S3 (Private Origin)

Project 2 — Serverless Contact Form

LIVE

A fully serverless contact form integrated into this portfolio. When a visitor submits the form, API Gateway triggers a Lambda function which calls Amazon SES to deliver two emails simultaneously — a notification to me and a professional auto-reply to the visitor. DKIM, SPF, and DMARC configured for production email deliverability. No server, no maintenance, no idle cost. Cost: $0/month.

Architecture

Project 3 — AI-Powered Resume Scanner

LIVE

A fully serverless AI resume analysis tool. Paste your resume text and get instant ATS compatibility scoring, keyword gap analysis, hard and soft skill identification, and specific improvement recommendations — powered by Google Gemini API. Supports general analysis and job-specific matching against a pasted job description. Deployed on the same S3 and CloudFront infrastructure as this portfolio — zero additional hosting cost. Cost: ~$0.05/month.

Project 4 — Automated Employee Onboarding

LIVE

Solves a real HR problem: manual onboarding is slow, inconsistent, and error-prone. When HR submits a new employee record, EventBridge triggers an automated pipeline that writes the employee profile to DynamoDB, sends a personalised HTML welcome email via SES, and publishes department-specific task notifications via SNS — all without manual intervention. A status dashboard lets HR track onboarding progress in real time.

Project 5 — FinOps Cost Optimization Engine

LIVE

Solves a real business problem: 32% of cloud budgets are wasted on idle or oversized resources. This engine automatically detects underutilised EC2 instances and idle resources, sends cost anomaly alerts via AWS Budgets and Cost Anomaly Detection, and generates weekly cost optimisation reports delivered via SES. EventBridge schedules daily checks — zero manual monitoring required.
